Illinois Leads

Strategic Plan

Illinois will influence every major social, political, technological, and educational decision in the world.

Charles L. Isbell, Jr.
Chancellor, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign

Purpose

Our missions of serving students; global impact in research; economic prosperity for Illinois; and shaping a better future drive the goals of Illinois Leads, which allows us to match our resources to our shared vision for the next five years and beyond.

Plan

The goals demonstrate how Illinois will prioritize and operationalize our ambition to lead. The strongest themes from stakeholder feedback mirrored opportunities within our university missions: teaching and learning, research and innovation, public engagement, economic development, and vitality for the state of Illinois and beyond.

Process

It is not enough to have a plan. A leading university must also have the capacity to turn priorities into action. The Illinois Leads Strategic Plan rests on an implementation framework designed to support the systems, strategies, people, measurements, and ways to tell our story.

Timeline

To create Illinois Leads, the university has led an extensive listening effort with students, faculty, staff, alumni, community leaders, and industry partners. The resulting conversations centered on building an environment where everyone can contribute their talents, pursue their goals, and make a meaningful impact.
