Using the Strategic Plan in Your Unit
The Illinois Leads Framework is how the university intends to bring the Illinois Leads Strategic Plan to life, and it is also how units come to see themselves within that plan. The Framework gives all units, colleges, and departments a shared structure for understanding how to approach their own work to advance those goals.
Each unit can move through the same four layers, mapping its own foundational systems, its own goals and strategies, its own people, and its own measurement and how to strategically tell our story, and in doing so connect its priorities to the priorities of the university.
Through this shared approach, the central plan and the work of individual units reinforce one another, and Illinois advances a shared strategy as an institution.
For units that have recently completed strategic planning, please review the framework to ensure that your approach supports and aligns with the university plan.
For units that are beginning strategic planning, please follow the Framework as you build your implementation plan. A sample planning template is available if you find it helpful. The Office of the Provost offers assistance to colleges to create their strategic plans.
